Words like aggressive and vibrant are often used to describe my contemporary paintings. Within my paintings narratives take over, and colors brighter than reality often draw the viewer in. I force my paintings to capture an intense energy that is both powerful and thought provoking. Frida Kahlo on steroids best describes the imagery I create.
My paintings are a fusion of Mexican-American identity and a dialogue with multiple art historical legacies. I pour myself into the work and get my inspiration from places that are real, very personal and even painful at times, but within this imagery multi-layered meanings challenge the viewer in understanding my state of mind and message to the world. Connecting with the great storytelling abilities of fourteenth and fifteenth century master painters is my ultimate goal.
Through my art, I want to transport you the viewer to witness real life on a canvas.
“They are a tribute to the realities of life in which we live.” -Jose Romero Jr.
